Process

Six stages, no surprises

Every stage has a defined output and a named person responsible for it.

  1. Eligibility review

We assess nationality, source of funds and family composition against current program rules.

  2. Document preparation

Apostille, translation and legalisation handled for every jurisdiction involved.

  3. Fund subscription

Subscription into the qualifying regulated fund, with the custodian confirmation you will need.

  4. Application and biometrics

Submission to the Hungarian authority, followed by biometrics at your nearest consulate.

  5. Main applicant approved, family reunification filed

Once your own application is approved, we file the family reunification application. It runs in parallel with the issue of your permit, so your family does not wait for your card.

  6. Permits issued

You receive your residence permit first. Each included family member receives theirs once family reunification is approved.

FAQ

Common questions

  • How long does the process take?

The Hungarian Guest Investor Residency is one of the fastest options we offer and can generally be completed within approximately 2–3 months, depending on the client’s availability, document preparation, and official processing times. Citizenship programs typically take considerably longer and may take approximately one year or more, depending on the specific program.

  • Do I need to live in Hungary?

No. The Guest Investor Residency has no minimum stay requirement, meaning you do not have to live in or spend a minimum number of days in Hungary. You are also not required to own real estate in Hungary, making it a highly flexible residency opportunity.

  • Can my family be included?

Yes. Your spouse and children under the age of 18 can be included. Under certain other residency programs, dependent children over the age of 18 may also be included; however, this is currently not possible under the Hungarian program.

  • What are the total costs?

The qualifying investment is €250,000. In addition, there are banking, account maintenance, subscription, government, administrative, legal, and professional costs associated with the process.

Our professional fees depend on the applicant’s family composition and the services required. Once we understand your family structure, we are happy to provide a personalized, transparent quotation covering the applicable costs.

  • Do I need to speak Hungarian?

No. There is no Hungarian language exam at any stage of the application.

  • Can I apply from outside Hungary?

The application route depends on whether your nationality allows visa-free entry to Hungary. We confirm the route that applies to you at eligibility review.

  • Which fund is the investment made into?

There are currently qualifying investment funds available for the Hungarian Guest Investor Residency route. We work with the relevant approved fund managers and help our clients evaluate the available options based on their structure, track record, investment strategy, fees, and expected performance.

Our team will provide the current list of qualifying options and detailed fund documentation before any investment decision is made.

  • Do I get my investment back?

Under the current regulations, the qualifying investment must be held for a minimum period of five years. After the required holding period, the investment may be redeemed in accordance with the applicable fund documentation, redemption conditions, and regulations. As with any investment product, the amount ultimately redeemed depends on the value and performance of the investment.

  • How long is the residence permit valid?

The residence permit is initially issued for 10 years and can be renewed for a further 10 years, subject to the applicable regulations at the time of renewal.

For family members, the residence permit is generally issued in line with the validity of their passports. For this reason, we recommend renewing passports before beginning the family reunification process whenever necessary, so that the longest possible residence permit validity can be obtained.

  • Can I travel in the Schengen Area with the permit?

Yes. The residence permit allows visa-free travel within the Schengen Area, subject to the applicable Schengen rules for residence permit holders. Since there is no minimum stay requirement in Hungary, you are not required to enter or exit the Schengen Area through Hungary.

  • What if my nationality requires a visa to enter Hungary?

You first obtain a Guest Investor Visa through the Hungarian embassy, then travel to Hungary and submit the residence application there.

  • How many times do I need to visit Hungary in person?

Applicants with visa-free entry attend in person only once, for biometrics. Visa-route applicants travel to Hungary once the Guest Investor Visa is issued. We confirm your route at eligibility review.

  • How does family reunification work?

Once the main applicant has received approval of their residence permit from the competent Hungarian authority, we can begin the family reunification process. This can generally be handled from abroad through the relevant Hungarian diplomatic mission or the designated external visa application service provider.
